Duarte

One of the best of the true blood plums, and perhaps the earliest, ripening in late July. A production of Luther Burbank, he stated to be a hybrid of 'Climax' and a seedling of P. munsoniana, an American species. Introduced in 1900 and named for Duarte, then the premier fruit district of Los Angeles county, where this and other Burbank plums were grown for commerce. Fruits pointed oblate in form, purple with paler red shoulders; flesh semicling, deep red, sweet and low in acidity, not too much aromatic in 'Santa Rosa' style but pleasant; needs little or no thinning. Self fertile. 250 hours. On Myrobolan.
